This is the second novel by Adam Nevill I have read, but it won't be the last. Nevill's true skill seems to be in bringing us into his protagonists' claustrophobic minds and trapping us there. This story isn't as astounding as "Last Days" however the mood is equally intense. Nevill drags us kicking and screaming into the thought processes of his characters and makes us experience their fear alongside them. A monster story, a lost in the woods story, a magick and ritual murder story complete with satanic dark metal teenagers and a very strange old woman with secrets of her own. It's a story with two parts and both are scary as fuck. Recommended to horror lovers 4/5 stars.
