Mercury Falling is the first short story in the collection and so it makes sense that it's the first I will review. Over the next few weeks I plan to review all the stories (except my own) on my blog.
This short takes a character who features in Luchesi's longer works and gives her an exciting short challenge. The story is about a Vampire Empress who is also a detective, protecting the human world from paranormal creatures. When the trickster god Hermes finds fame in a baseball championship, his ex turns up and causes havoc for everyone mortal and immortal.
Of course our hero wins, and it is never really in any doubt that she will, but the story is fun, violent and fast paced and the banter is frequently amusing. A great opening to the anthology.
