Slice Girls interview with Sandra Wiltje

What was it that attracted you to the Slice Girls anthology?

It was different than other anthologies. Horror is right up my alley and having the main female character messing around with guys was a twist that I found intriguing.

Please give the readers a brief summary of the story you wrote for the collection.

Protagonist is a female "hitman" for hire. This time she is hired to take out a well known and protected man who kidnaps children.

How do you feel about the way women are usually portrayed in horror?

There should be more strong female leads in horror. For some reason the girls hardly ever end up saving the day by the end of the stories.

Do you think the way female characters are portrayed in horror reflects the way society views women?

It doesn't, I hope. That would be sad. Women came a long way to make their voices heard. We are so much more that just "damsels in distress".

What are you writing at the moment?

A commissioned fairytale short story for adults about a stuffed bear who was thrown away. He's trying to find his way back to his owner and encountering many strange things in the land of adults.
